Australia and England to Touchdown in Christchurch
Tournament organiser Rugby New Zealand 2011 announced that both the Australian and England Rugby World Cup 2011 teams will be including Christchurch in their Tournament itineraries.
“Both teams were due to play matches in Christchurch, but the devastating earthquake of February 22 changed those plans so we are grateful that the teams are able to do their bit to raise the spirits of the city,” said Rugby New Zealand 2011 CEO Martin Snedden.
Team member’s from Australia have planned to travel from Hanmer Springs on September 28 where they will participate in community activities before flying to Nelson for their match against Russia. This will include a tour of the new Fanzone at Hagley Park, a fundraising lunch and school and hospital visits.
Martin Johnson team manager of the England team and several team members from England will also spend time in the city on September 7 ahead of their opening match against Argentinain Dunedin on September 10.
