This Old House

In what has been described as a “sensational discovery”, archaeologists believe they’ve found the oldest house in Britain, dating back 11,000 years.

Thought to have belonged to early nomadic hunter-gatherers, the round house – a circle of timber posts around a sunken circular floor area – appears to have been made in 8,500BC, the BBC reported recently.

Participating teams from the Universities of Manchester and York suggest that the inhabitants would have been among the first settlers returning after the glaciers of the ice age retreated.
